Oh Z Spoke Alright

Z Spoke by Zac Posen, are you serious? You went and you gosh darn did it! Wow. I mean, I really feel like this was the show of the season. It was fun, vibrant, energetic, and a huge wake up call from other shows. Like, hello, we need a little bit more umph in our lives these days what with the "economy" (I use quotations here as I feel like this is very over used, but still relevant; hell I was laid off in 2009, it wasn't pretty!), Facebook is taking over our lives/documenting each breath we take, and because the San Francisco 49ers are 0-2. Seriously, it's like Zac knew exactly how to cheer me up and there is reason to be hopeful; things are getting better in the financial world, I am constantly up to date on what people are wearing via their FB albums, and it is a looooong season (look out Kansas City!). Thank you, Zac. I needed a little pick me up.

Tibi-Licious

It is no surprise to anyone who has ever seen me in public that I love the brand Tibi. I love the colors, the cut, the fabric, the look, the patterns; come to think of it, I don't know what I do not like about it. I even have an affinity for the designers name - Amy Smilovic (is this too narcissistic? It is my blog after all).

Anywho, it comes as no surprise to me that I was enamored with Tibi's Spring 2011 collection. I loved the simple styling of the hair and make up for one, but even more than that were the shoe options. They were classic - leopard loafers anyone? - looked comfortable, and very modern.

Check it out yourself and see if you two are vying for "classic with a twist" Tibi Collection.

Like A Rhinestone Cowgirl

I, for one, love when Ralph Lauren uses his Southwestern influences on the runway. There is something about this relaxed vibe - suede, and feathers and turquoise, oh my!- that really resonates well with me. Perhaps it is because in another life I can see myself living in New Mexico, soaking up the sun while making Tex Mex inspired food and raising cattle some where out in the acres of property I own. While this life has yet to come to fruition, the one I have now allows me to covet the clothing Ralph Lauren put down the cat walk last week in NYC. Let's just all say it together in unison, "he's done it again!"

Marc Your Google Calendars People

Marc Jacobs launched his first E-Commerce site today, which dear readers, means you can buy his clothing online from him. Not ShopBop, not ShopStyle, not Revolve, but MJ himself! Oh this could be sooooo good, or so very bad. Only time will tell.

Do yourself a favor and check out the site. It is pretty darn cute!

Sad Day In London Town

Nearly 1,000 people gathered yesterday at St. Paul's Cathedral in London to honor the late Alexander McQueen. The likes of SJP, Naomi Campbell, Anna Wintour and Stella McCartney were present to remember the man who created a world where fashion and fantasy joined hands. The tragic end to a talented man's life will never be forgotten, nor will his designs and interesting take on colors/patterns/runway shows. Let's all take a moment to think about the man, the mystery and the mayhem of Mr. McQueen and remember him as a true artist.

Riddle Me This

Does she need to exist? What on earth?

Out of sorts

Dear Readers,

I am so very sorry for being gone from the blog for the last several days. While it is Fashion's busiest time, it is also mine with fashion related events (in addition to the start of the NFL season). While I was away I was planning events for Seth Aaron Henderson-winner of Project Runway Season 7, Good Charlotte-their new album drops on November 2nd, and Macy's annual Passport Fashion Show. I was in LA last week for the show and witnessed some amazing D List celebrity sightings... Great stories always follow Macy's Passport.

Again, I am sorry and I am back in business!

Love,
Me

Back Comes the Backpack

Or so Tory Burch, Prada and Marc Jacobs think. I guess I'm no longer in an environment that leaves me to believe I should in fact be sporting a backpack, and therefore am biased. But do we really think adults should be spending well over $300 on backpacks? I guess it is good for our backs and posture, but something tells me it wouldn't go with the couture ensembles these designers create. Is this just another way to get tweens buying designers earlier and earlier in their lifetime? I guess we will have to wait and see if someone like Little J on Gossip Girl is rocking this backpack trend. Which, the above mentioned CW show starts Monday. Holler!

New Barney's Ad

So... ummm, yeah. I am kind of speechless by this image, and not in a good way. I feel like if I saw this as a small child I would always associate Barney's in a negative way, which I hope crossed the retailers mind as they approved this and then sent it to print. I mean, do they not have some sort of Don Draper-esque Creative Director who can help them out in situations like this? Big/nasty skeleton grabbing a cute girl in a plaid dress? What? Someone actually thought this would bring people into Barney's to spend money? And with the way Barney's rolls, boat loads of money. I will be honest, the only thing this advertisement makes me want to do is run home, get under my covers, and cry myself to sleep in hopes no one that looks like that ever attacks me from behind. This may give me more nightmares than the criminals Benson and Stabler deal with on SVU.

Lively In Marchesa

Typically I think Blake Lively shows a little too much leg/cleavage/back/belly button but this go round I think she has it just right. The colors suit her, the cut is fantastic, it is youthful, vibrant and embodies her fashion spirit. All in all, I think Ms. Lively has done a good job with her first outfit for Fashion Week 2010 which starts today! Yay!

W's New Look

It seems the new W is here to stay; and if I am being frank I feel "eh" about this fact. When I received my September issue in the mail I was very underwhelmed with the look and feel of the magazine. Particularly about the "Who, What, Where, and Why" (or something to that effect) lining the top of the cover. Those words seem so elementary to me, and being that W has always been my favorite magazine subscription (others I have include but are not limited to Bazaar, InStyle, Marie Claire*,Vogue, Lucky, and Elle) I just feel betrayed. I know there is a new Editor in Chief and from what I have read this new look is to show off the importance of their photography, but still, I think it is a little vanilla/medium/asi asi. I will wait until October lands in my mail box before I make a definitive judgment.

*Now I starred Marie Claire above because I have a question. Is anyone watching Project Runway, and if so have they noticed the way Heidi says Marie Claire? Am I crazy or does she pretty much say it and it sounds like "Mary?" I mean... I know she is German but I feel like all these years have gone by and no one has told me I have been pronouncing the magazine's name wrong. Also, speaking of MC how much better is it now that Nina is on board?

BOOKMARC

Bookmarc opened yesterday on Bleeker Street in New York. Bookmarc is the latest business endeavor for Fashion Guru Marc Jacobs. The stores houses colored pencils, notepads and books with the designers name on them as well as actual books - although written by authors, not designers. Reviews of the store have been promising and most people cannot help but love the location. Now if only I could be transported to NYC for a look see...

As My Friends at GoFug Would Say

Oh, honey no.

Can You Feel It?

Fashion Week is in the air and I, for one, am very very pleased. September has to be the best month of the year, the September issues make reading more enjoyable, the weather here in San Francisco is like Heaven on Earth, Fashion Week, Football and Pumpkin Spiced Lattes. For me, it is truly a time to celebrate! Check back here for periodic Fashion Week coverage of my fave designers!

Marc and Gaga do NYC

And by do, I mean portray the naked version of the Statue of Liberty. In the "New York Issue" of V magazine two of the biggest talents to come from the city that never sleeps grace the cover, Marc Jacobs and Lady Gaga. Check out the photo above. I mean, personally, I cannot stand to see any more of Gaga's flesh but that fact of the matter is I am still talking about her and therefore she is doing her job. 'Nuff said!

AJ Style Bubble First

As I was reading the online fashion periodicals this lovely morning I stumbled across this article about San Francisco fashion. Rather than go into detail - as you know I love to write pretty much anything that pops into my head - I thought I would simply include the link to said article here. Enjoy!

Rumor Alert

H&M's Facebook, as well as WWD, have been a buzz with the upcoming announcement of the retailers newest designer collaboration. While the past designers have included Stella McCartney, Sonia Riykel, Matthew Williamson and more, this designer would take it up a notch; a big fatty notch. In a recent post it seems WWD has reported Lanvin is a go! Lanvin.... like the one created by Alber Elbaz? What? That is nuts! And insane! And amazing! Frankly these dirty little rumors should not come out unless there is 99% truth to them. Please dear lord let this one be true! If it is, I will be such a good girl and not shop until the collection hits the stores... Well, that may be a stretch but I will do something! Something to ensure I get every last piece of the collection! Muahahaha! (that's my evil laugh)

Bang Is Right

Marc Jacobs new fragrance for men is called Bang; and with an ad campaign like the one seen to right, I now know why. In a recent magazine article (I apologize for not remember which publication - these September issues have me in a tizzy!) Marc discuss the photo with Calvin Klein saying that he wanted to make an impact. Impact indeed! Marc has come a long way since the mid 90's when his body was nothing like the man's in this photo and he sported long hair and thick black glasses. While I do tend to love this man in a kilt, I feel like the cologne bottle covering his bits works in his favor.
